Nourishment Security

1 Million MealsCumulative total over 12 years - from 67,000 in Year 1 to 100,000+ annually by Year 6
Over 12 years of dignified food relief

Every person deserves access to nutritious food without shame or stigma. Through our Hub, families walk in with dignity and leave with hope.

2

Crisis Prevention

1,800 FamiliesEarly intervention support preventing escalation to homelessness, family breakdown, or acute crisis
Supported before crisis hits

When we catch families early, we prevent crises before they start. Early support is 6 times more cost-effective than emergency response—and infinitely more humane.

3

Human Connection

800,000 HoursFace-to-face support including meals, drop-in sessions, programmes, case management, and peer support
Of genuine community support

Isolation is as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Connection saves lives. Every hour in our Hub is an hour someone knows they matter.

These three goals are part of our comprehensive seven-goal framework designed to create lasting, measurable community impact.

The Hub Unlocks Transformative Capacity

We're not dreaming. We're currently operating at absolute capacity, turning families away every week. The Hub doesn't create new demand—it finally allows us to meet the demand that's already there.

TODAY

2 nights/week, cramped kitchen
  • 50,000 meals annuallyCurrent capacity serving approximately 960 meals per week across 2 service nights
  • 137 meals per day
  • Operating at absolute capacityVolunteers frequently turn families away due to space and equipment limitations
  • Volunteers literally running out of fridge space

We're limited by physical infrastructure, not by demand or volunteer dedication

THE HUB

6 days/week, commercial kitchen
  • Year 1: 67,000 meals (34% increase immediately)Conservative estimate based on current demand plus staged capacity growth
  • By Year 6: 100,000 meals annually
  • By Year 12: 1 million meals cumulativeBased on 5-7% annual growth - well below Victoria's 8-10% food relief demand growth
  • 228 meals every single day, six days a week

Professional infrastructure meeting proven demand with room to grow sustainably

What This Really Means

One meal every 5 minutes during operating hoursBased on 6-day operation, 8 hours per day, 228 meals daily average

Triple the output without tripling volunteer hoursCommercial equipment efficiency - industrial ovens, walk-in fridges, bulk prep capacity

Consistent, reliable service instead of "sorry, we're full"

Proper meal planning instead of "whatever fits in the fridge"Nutritionally balanced menus, dietary requirements met, bulk purchasing efficiency

Professional infrastructure transforms volunteer dedication into sustainable, scalable community impact. This isn't just about serving more meals—it's about serving them with dignity, consistency, and genuine care.

Why This Projection Is Conservative

Food relief demand across Victoria is growing at 8-10% annually.Victorian government data shows consistent year-on-year growth in emergency food relief requests since 2020 We've modelled our growth at just 5-7% and still hit one million meals over 12 years. The Hub doesn't create artificial demand—it finally meets the real, existing demand that we're currently forced to turn away.

We're not guessing. We turn families away every single week because we've physically run out of space. The demand is here. The need is real. We just need the infrastructure to meet it.

Community Need

Knox is one of only two red zones with the most severe food shortage in eastern Melbourne. Current infrastructure can meet just 60 percent of demand whilst food parcel distribution has increased fivefold since 2020. Nearly half of those seeking assistance are first-time clients who have never needed support before, representing working families pushed to crisis point by cost-of-living pressures.

Launch Plan

The Main Street Upwey location provides high visibility with excellent public transport access. Commercial-grade kitchen, community café, and opportunity shop create a central coordination hub for the entire region's food relief network. The Knox Food Relief Taskforce currently coordinates multiple providers but can meet only 60 percent of community demand without significant infrastructure investment.
