Do you want to engage with your local community in a meaningful way? If you are interested in volunteering at one of our programs, please find out how below.
Become a volunteer at one of our local programs
We rely heavily on volunteers from the local community to help run our programs. Each year we have over 100 volunteers participate, some are weekly, some are one-off. We firmly believe that providing a space for people to volunteer in a meaningful way within their own local community is vital for healthy communities.
Foothills Community Care volunteers give anywhere between 4 hours a week to 2 hours a month to their work. Each is characterised by a real desire to connect with people who are struggling, and a willingness to come alongside and journey with others, in a shared experience of transformation that creates community.
We require all our volunteers to have a current Working With Children's Check. If you do not have one already, you can apply for free. For more information click here.
If you are interested in volunteering at one of our programs, please check out some of the opportunities below:
Community Meal Nights
We run two weekly community meals, on Monday and Wednesday nights. Volunteer opportunities on the night include: Helping in the kitchen to prepare and serve food; set up and clean up; sitting down and having conversations with our guests.
Each Thursday we host our cook-up. This is where we get together as a community and cook big batches of meals to freeze in preparation to deliver. We also have the opportunity for people willing to volunteer in delivering meals to people in the Dandenong Ranges and Knox.
Mountain Gate Community Op Shop
Mountain Gate Community Opportunity Shop, a social enterprise initiative of Foothills, provides low cost recycled and upcycled goods for sale at a good price providing pre-loved goods a second home. Donate goods to us or join our team of friendly volunteers serving with us
Every Christmas Day we hold a lunch for those who would otherwise go without. Opportunities for volunteers include: helping set up on Christmas Eve; helping to cook or set up/clean up; or sitting and chatting with guests.
We also provide multiple opportunities for school age children to volunteer with us. We have many different partnerships with local schools with students participating in a number of different leadership and community awards.
For those who are more comfortable behind a computer than chopping veggies or washing dishes, we are looking for someone who's keen to help us with our Social Media presence, including the potential of assisting with starting and operating an online store for our Op Shop
Host a Fundraiser
Host a fundraiser for us with your friends, work, community group or church. We can help you to customize an online giving page.
Create a corporate or business partnership with us. We can tailor one to meet your specific situation.
We can accept a wide variety of food, whether its fruit and vegetables, non perishables or meat. Host a giving tree at Christmas time, during winter, collect socks and underwear, beanies etc.
